About Us

Shimantik, a national non-government organization in Bangladesh, established in 1979. Shimantik is dully registered with the Social Service Department [Syl-7(221)/84, dated 16 May 1984] and NGO Affairs Bureau (Registration no.298 dated 28 May 1989), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP).

Shimantik’s vision is to bring a social movement to empower disadvantage people especially women and children of Bangladesh.

Shimantik’s mission is to create an enabling environment for integrated development initiative aim at betterment of underserved populace to ensure quality service and technical assistance in health, education, environment, research, human resource development, livelihood and other multi-dimensional approaches.

Governance


General Council (GC)


General Council (GC) is the highest level body of the organization, which is consists of more than 70 members from different professionals. GC meets once yearly in the Annual General Meeting (AGM). The role of GC is to elect Central Executive Committee (CEC) member for 2 years duration, review the ongoing organizational activities and approve the yearly organizational activity plan, formulate and approve policies and annul budget.



Advisory Committee


Advisory Committee consists of 11 members from different professionals selected by the GC for 2 years duration. The role of Advisory Committee is to advice the CEC while the organization faces any critical crises or problems and plays an active role on organizational management and development in an advisory capacity.


Central Executive Committee consists of 11 members-elected by the GC for 2 years duration. CEC meets once in every three months to discuss the progress of organizational activities, take part in policy making process, organizational management, development and take initiative to implement of the different activities of the organization and solve problems if organization faces so far. The CEC remains accountable to the GC and the Executive Director remains accountable to the CEC.


There are four REC which represents the CEC to implements Shimantik’s different projects and program for different places and locations. Each REC has 7 members elected by CEC for two years duration like CEC. These RECs provide support to different projects as and when required on behalf of CEC.

Management


Administrative Council


The ED is responsible for the overall management and implementation of all activities of Shimantik and both REC and CEC ensures the voluntary oversight to the activities implemented through ED and his implementation teams. The organization has different section or department like program & research, capacity building & training, education and finance & human resource. It has also an internal audit and monitoring section. Different directors (who are also the core staff of the organization) are responsible for respective department that are assigned as per its constitution. Besides these, different project wise resources are available as per project design and implementation approach. Administrative Council’s activities are guided by policies and guidelines approved by its CEC which includes personnel (HR) policy, financial management policies, work place policy, quality assurance guidelines, child safety policy, gender policy etc.


Shimantik has its senior management team (SMT) constituted by ED, DEDs, Directors and project heads/chiefs of different project. The SMT lead by the Executive Director where some key professionals of Shimantik volunteers (member of CEC/REC) involved. The main objective of formation the SMT is to review the progress of different project wise activities of Shimantik regularly and suggest corrective measures, if necessary. It also discus, share its opportunity, challenges, problems and take initiatives to resolve the problem (if any) during implementing the project activities. It helps the organization to reach its set goals, objectives properly and accelerates the momentum of delivering the services with the highest level of quality.
